Mendoza lies at the feet of the highest peak of the Andes cordillera: the Aconcagua mountain (6.962 meters above sea level). The Andes mountains, as well as a charming scenery, contribute to create the dry and extremely sunny climate of the Cuyo region. Ultra-centenarian vineyards (ungrafted) cultivated among 600 and 1.400 mts.u.sl. are the clearest evidence of these excellent vegetative growth conditions. Especially in the Uco valley and the area around Lujan, the thermal variation between day and night is ideal for the malbec vines: long uncloudy days reaching 34º-38º deg C° yield to very fresh nights of 15º-18º deg C° in summer. Experts agree that malbec is the vine variety most adapted in Mendoza. It was introduced here during the predominantly migration flow at the end of the nineteenth century. Malbec reaches its phenolic maturity at the end of March and the first days of April.
